Coastal Chronicles

Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is the largest coastal city in India naturally blessed with a rich coastal ecosystem. Mangroves which form one of the important components of this ecosystem not only help keep the shoreline intact against tidal currents by preventing soil erosion but also offer a unique habitat for biodiversity with inimitable functions for the environment and ecosystems. The importance of coastal management in Mumbai thus has been widely recognized as the most important component for the sustainability of Mumbai's coastal ecosystem. Naman Kaji, a young wildlife enthusiast will take us on a virtual tour of this Mumbai’s ecosystem with its components, habitats, key species found in these habitats and some interesting adaptations in few of the species to survive in the changing habitats.
