Venkatesh is a private researcher and regular contributor to discussions on Mumbai's heritage, as a speaker in forums as INTACH , Asiatic Society of Mumbai, Instucen Trust and the Photographic Society of India. He is a photographer as well and has held one exhibition on Mumbai's architectural iconography as well. He has an MA in History from JNU and a BA Hons Hist from Delhi University.
