Mangroves of Mumbai

22nd May is International Biodiversity Day and it's being celebrated globally under the slogan : "We're part of the solution #ForNature". We at MMMS are committed to raising maritime awareness through its diverse facets impacting the city of Mumbai. This talk focuses on Mangroves, a uniquely adaptive species in the intertidal zones of Mumbai's coastal ecosystem which is most threatened by reclamations & development but is also one of the most important providers of ecological & economic services to the city and the role Forest Department plays in the protection & conservation of this important coastal ecosystem of Mumbai. About the speaker : Dr Sheetal Pachpande has a PHD in Thane Creek Ecosystem and is a researcher in various wetland related plants and biodiversity. She is currently working as the Deputy Director – Projects with Mangrove Foundation – An Autonomous body under the Revenue & Forests Department of Government of Maharashtra.
