Maritime Museums

The Indian sub-continent with a vast coastline of 7,517 kms, dominates the Indian Ocean and is strategically located at one of the world's busiest sea-trade routes. India's diverse 5000 year old maritime history has been relegated to obscurity since colonial times. Today more than ever before, an awareness of this history needs to be re-created in order to secure a brighter maritime future for our country. Stories of the earliest tidal dockyard in the world, the sea-borne trade & commerce, our cultural interactions with IOR rim states, the Maratha Naval power and the Indian Navy as well as the Merchant Marine, need to be told. Establishing Maritime Museums is one way to tell these forgotten stories. This Webinar aspires to bring together such institutions on a common platform to start a much-needed conversation on the subject.
