The Sassoon Saga

Come join us to explore the history, business and culture of the historic Sassoon Dock. One of the first commercial wet docks of the city, Sassoon’s history can be dated back to the Victorian era, when trade in Mumbai was at its zenith. Albert David Sassoon, an entrepreneur and son of the famous businessman David Sassoon, orchestrated the construction of the docks in order to land cotton and other trading commodities. The history of the Docks, mirror the growing prosperity of this city. While this functioned as the earliest wet dock, subsequent construction of larger wet docks put Sassoon slowly into oblivion. The walk has a heady mix of history and culture, making it suited for varied interests that you might have. So come join us, and we promise you a morning of lesser known histories, unique cultural conversations and learn the business challenges faced by the first people of Mumbai.
