Versova To Ambu

Situated at the entrance of Malad creek with Madh headland to its west, Vesava or Versova of today, was a medieval port that had a limited Arab trade apart from the coasting trade. Versova and Madh are also two of the most thriving koliwadas of Mumbai. On this walk, we will explore the life in a Koli village through its homes, colourful boats and their culture along with a peek into their open-hearted community life. A visit to close by Ambu , will give us an opportunity to experience this almost obscure yet beautiful and peaceful little island which is bestowed with three shrines of Ambu Devi, Velankani Mata and Hazrat Sayed Qadri Baghdadi Baba Dargah along with a Portuguese watch tower and Granary. And if we are lucky we may get to see dolphins diving at a distance too. We will also get to see and learn about how the landscape and the seascape of this region have changed due to the destruction of mangroves. The walk includes two ferry rides and a traditional koli lunch
